The Ugliest Dog

Welcome to this week's Thursday News of the Absurd Will Someone Please Write This Book Inspirational Moment (TNoftheAWSPWTBIM).

From the AP:
"Gus the dog has three legs, one eye and no hair, except for a white tuft on the top of his head. He's a real winner...The pedigree Chinese crested won the World's Ugliest Dog contest on Saturday at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Northern California."

Oh, poor Gus. Click here and look at him. I dare you not to laugh.

Will someone please write the heart-warming story of Gus's ugly duckling journey from mocked, unwanted ugly dog to admired, desired World's Ugliest Dog? I want crazed David Shannon illustrations standing in hilarious contrast to a text with a simple tone, like Dan Yaccarino's Unlovable, but with a truly ugly main character.

And does anyone else see a striking resemblance between Gus and Skippyjon Jones?

I saw Gus and I would have really strange voices speaking to me from my personal dreamworld if I tried to write about him.
What are you doing to encourage your muses? Mine all seem to be on vacation. Maybe it's the heat.

Sharon, I don't know. Maybe they like that I am playing hard to get?

Ah, he's adorable.

When I was small I used to give away all my 'pretty' & 'expensive' dolls and come home from jumble sales with balding, armless things.

Catherine, that's funny. I think YOU should write the book, though, given your genre, it might come out differently than I was imagining...

I have to pass on this one. Gigi insists that if I write any story about a real animal, it has to be about her, The Kitten Who Wouldn't Purr, and as I can't figure out yet how to write that without sounding totally insipid, she (and Gus) will have to wait.

Although, after playing jungle gym to a cage full of kittens at HSHV today (and having one little devil escape on me), I might bring a nasty tone to the piece....
